What's On This Week: VACATION, NOBLE, WHEN MARNIE WAS THERE, and more!

12th October, 2015

An inspirational true story, a nightmare vacation, stoned-cold killers, beautiful hand-drawn Japanese anime, and a poignant Australian comedy all await filmgoers on this week’s varied and eclectic line-up at the ANU Film Group!

• Tue 13 Oct @ 7:30 PM: NOBLE

** This film preceded by 14-minute short, BLOODY GOOD HEADLINE. Both films proudly presented by the Embassy of Ireland. **

Motivated by her harsh upbringing in Ireland, Christina Noble travels to war-torn Vietnam in 1989 where she discovers her destiny: to make a difference in the lives of abused and homeless children. Exclusive Canberra premiere.

• Fri 16 Oct @ 7:30 PM: VACATION + AMERICAN ULTRA

In VACATION, Rusty Griswold (Ed Helms) takes his family on a cross-country trip to Walley World to recreate his childhood vacation in the hope of bringing them closer together. Also starring Christina Applegate and Chris Hemsworth.

Then, in AMERICAN ULTRA (at approx. 9:15 PM), when a stoner (Jesse Eisenberg) is targeted for assassination, he begins to recall his brainwashed past as a government killer and must use his newly uncovered skills to stay alive.

• Sat 17 Oct @ **7 PM**: WHEN MARNIE WAS THERE + RUBEN GUTHRIE

In the latest film from Studio Ghibli, WHEN MARNIE WAS THERE, an outcast young girl is sent to stay at a seaside town where she meets Marnie, an unlikely friend and kindred spirit that may be more than she at first appears.

** NOTE: WHEN MARNIE WAS THERE will be screening in its original Japanese language version with English subtitles. **

Then, in RUBEN GUTHRIE (at approx. 8:45 PM), an advertising executive lives the high life, until one drunken night brings everything crashing down and his friends and family give him an ultimatum: to go one year without a drink or lose it all.
