What can you say about this film? It is probably one of the most controversial Stanley Kubrick productions in his amazing repertoire. For a film of 1968, the effects are stunning and the sheer scale of this epic film will mark it out as one of the top films of all time.

Based a story by Arthur C. Clarke, 2001: A Space Odyssey reveals that alien monoliths have been conducting an experiment by controlling the evolutionary development of man. The film starts 4 million years in the past, revealing a monolith influencing the development of apes down the path to becoming human. Flash into the future, and humans have landed on the moon, uncovering another monolith with bizarre properties. The journey has only yet begun.

The film is methodical, perhaps a little slow at times, especially with some of the space sequences. Nonetheless, this is quite possibly one of science fiction's best films ever and should, consequently, not be missed; especially in the newly remastered edition. A must see, multiple times.
