Based on the young adult novel of the same name by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, this is a tale of young love against the backdrop of supernatural events. Thankfully though this is not “Twilight” – in fact it probably has more in common with the “True Blood” novels. Which is a very good thing.
Ethan Wate (Ehrenreich) is a young man stuck in a boring, dead-end town that he can’t wait to escape from. His life takes a magical twist when he meets Lena Duchannes (Englert), the new girl in town, and is drawn to her through strange events. But Lena is no normal girl – she is a Caster, a wielder of magic, and soon it will be her 16th birthday… when she will be claimed by Light or Dark. Ethan sets out to discover the truth behind his strange connection to Lena, and help her escape her family’s Dark history.
The mythology is interesting, the supporting cast is impressive and Richard LaGravenese, Oscar-nominated writer of The Fisher King, does an excellent job bringing this intriguing world to the big screen. Come along to see that ‘Young Romance’ + ‘Supernatural’ does not HAVE to be a bad thing.
