When the unglamorous geriatric ward – affectionately dubbed ‘The Beth’ – in a small Yorkshire hospital is threatened with closure due to funding cuts, the ward’s staff and residents rally together to fight for its future. Spearheaded by the formidable Sister Gilpin (Jennifer Saunders), they invite a news crew to document their planning of a concert in honour of the hospital’s most distinguished nurse. Will their attempts to galvanise the community work? What could possibly go wrong?

Featuring a cast of British acting stalwarts, and based on the play by celebrated writer Alan Bennett (The Lady in the Van, The History Boys), this is a warm, moving celebration of the spirit of the elderly and a tribute to the dedication of medical staff all around the world.

Ria (Priya Kansara) is just your everyday British-Pakistani teenage schoolgirl… who dreams of one day becoming a professional stuntwoman. She spends her spare time practicing martial arts and filming amateur stunts with her older sister, Lena (Ritu Arya), who has recently returned home after dropping out of art school. Then the unthinkable happens: Lena falls for a dashing doctor (Akshay Khanna) and is soon engaged.

Devastated at what her sister’s impending marriage would mean for their bond, Ria sets out to pull off an ambitious wedding heist – in the name of independence and sisterhood, of course.

A merry mash up which blends together bold action, teen comedy, heists and family drama, Polite Society is a winner.
