Still Crazy is the story of the revival of Strange Fruit, an archetypal but fictional seventies rock outfit, who paid a price for their indulgences at the height of their rock-god stardom when a little divine intervention brought the band to an abrupt halt. After living separate lives for a while, the members of Strange Fruit, broke and desperate, decide to put aside their differences and re-form for a come back tour. Hughie (Connelly), a former roadie of theirs is happy to oblige and so begins an often amusing sequence of events that brings the members of the band to the realisation that this tour was perhaps not the easy meal ticket they had first envisioned. Old grievances emerge within the band, which are not at all offset by the hostile crowds and the often highly inappropriate venues, but nonetheless, the band puts these set-backs aside and invest faith in their vision that they will some day soon make their way back up into the spotlight.
Still Crazy has been described as The Full Monty meets Spinal Tap. Although such comparisons are, by their nature, a little superficial, it can be said that if you enjoyed either of these two, you will probably get a laugh out of Still Crazy. The characters are a little more over the top than those in The Full Monty, but the story is nonetheless accented by an all too often unforgiving and realistic narrative, which really takes it away from the 'spoof' category that films like Spinal Tap reside in.
