An inspiring film about two young boys in seventh grade who overcome their disabilities by teaming up. Kevin (Keiren Culkin) moves next door to Max (Elden Henson). Both boys have certain problems. Kevin is inflicted with Morguio's syndrome, which basically means that his bones have stopped growing even though his organs continue to expand, and Max is a hulking giant who is illiterate and known at their school as The Missing Link. They first meet when Max is accused of throwing a ball at Kevin in gym class, and later when Kevin tutors Max in reading. Both are outcasts at school, and by helping each other out they add a quality to their lives that they did not have before.
The movie is based on the popular book "Freak the Mighty", written by Rodman Philbrick. The acting performance of Keiren Culkin and Elden Henson is extremely good, considering most child actors rely on their cute looks instead of any real acting ability, which is not the case in this film. Another thing to commend this film to parents is the lack of gory violence and foul language that seems to be an essential in most films these days. Hope you enjoy it.
