Bobby Bowfinger (Martin) has the script that might finally make him a respected Hollywood director. There's only one problem - the ideal star, Kit Ramsey (Murphy) won't do it. So he decides to do it his own way. Bowfinger assembles Hollywood's cheapest crew and an aspiring starlet (Graham). He then sets out to film the movie starring Kit Ramsey, but without letting him know.
Eddie Murphy, playing his customary more than one part, contributes a great deal to the success of this movie. He's a versatile actor, and here he's reined in just enough to prevent him dominating the whole proceedings. But the movie is really a vehicle for Steve Martin, and after a string of really bad movies (Out of Towners, anyone?) he's back to what made him a star in the first place. He makes Bowfinger a believable character, and with some great turns of comic wit. One of the best comedies of 1999.
