Josie (Rachel Leigh Cook) and the Pussycats (Rosario Dawson and Tara Reid) are an up and coming garage band in the small town of Riverdale. Spotted by manager Wyatt Frame (Alan Cumming) they are suddenly thrown onto the roller coaster of fame, becoming the number one band in the world. But the CEO of their record company (Parker Posey) has a shadowy hidden agenda.
Josie and the Pussycats is probably closer to Spinal Tap than Charlie's Angels. The film tries to look like a standard teen flic, but there's actually quite a bit of bite once you look a little below the surface. Some of the social commentary in the film is a little strained at times. But in this world of Pop Stars, Spice Girls and N*Sync, it's nice to see a film that actually points out how ridiculous this all is. The three leads turn in a really fun performance, and I think they've all got a bright future in front of them. A great way to spend an evening.
