Your friendly mad scientist invites you (Filby, played by Young) and your mates over to dinner one winter evening in about 1890 to tell you about his latest invention, a time machine. The story is ridiculous, but when he mysteriously disappears, then reappears looking as though he has been mauled by Jack the Ripper, you think he may not be quite so mad after all.
This adaptation of George Wells's book has Taylor playing George Wells, who goes into the future - the year 802,701 in fact - to find the population to be entirely peace-loving, young and beautiful people called Eloi, including Weena (Mimieux). The reason there are no old people soon becomes obvious, and since it is rather an unpleasant reason, involving people called 'Morlocks', our mate Wells decides to go Back to the Future to save Weena from an encounter with some large dirty teeth. Yes, dear member, the ANUFG proudly presents a 42-year-old film to show you that 'They don't make 'em like that anymore!' ...which is a shame, because even without special FX gizmos, a decent screenplay and half-decent actors, they can certainly make a very good movie.
