I've heard Y tu Mama Tambien described as a Mexican American Pie. I don't get it myself. Maybe if the makers of American Pie took out most of the screwball comedy, inserted some intelligence and raunchy sex scenes and nudity, and finally made it more depressing, THEN there would be a similarity. But then, what is American Pie apart from a screwball comedy?
To stop digressing, Y tu mama tambien is the story of Julio (Bernal) and Tenoch (Luna), two horny (make that VERY horny) young men whose girlfriends have just left the country on a trip. They therefore decide that they will spend summer free-loving and substance-abusing. They meet Luisa (Verdu) at a wedding and take a liking to her, inviting her on a trip to a beach they just made up. Luisa, going through a few troubles of her own, accepts, and they set off on a road trip to a beach that doesn't actually exist. But it's the journey and not the destination that matters, and the three find themselves in a sexually charged triangle of conflict and desire.
