Peter Sanderson (Martin) is a divorced lawyer looking for a relationship. He meets a woman who claims to be a blonde, shapely lawyer, but is, in fact, a large African-American fugitive (Latifah). Meatloaf tells us that two out of three ain't bad, but Sanderson is about to discover that zero out of three can be very bad indeed. Charlene, the fugitive, proceeds to sabotage Sanderson's life in an effort to coerce him into proving her innocence. However, Sanderson begins to realise that Charlene is not all she seems, and that if he helps her, she could be the solution to his problems rather than the cause. Bringing Down the House comes with a message about stereotypes and preconceptions, particularly those based on race. If you can tolerate the less than subtle way in which the message is driven home, Bringing Down the House is an enjoyable comedy.
