As someone who was in deep shock for days after the famous ear removal scene in Reservoir Dogs, a friend's description of Pulp Fiction as "way more violent, but heaps funnier" did little to reassure me. But, it's true, and I expect that everyone watching it again here will have seen it at least a couple of times before; they want another chance to hear about brain detail, foot massages, five dollar shakes, and the best place to stow a wristwatch. For those of you who might not have seen this cult classic, be prepared for small time thieves, big time crooks, one hitman intent on redemption and salvation and one fascinated by the European tendency to eat French fries with mayonnaise, and a loser boxer determined not to go out with a whimper, linked together in a sharply interwoven plot, witty screenplay (Oscar-winning, in fact), and accompanied by a sensational soundtrack. This film shows why Tarantino made it big, for a while anyway. If you can handle assassination, drug use, sadism, baaad language and fabulous nail polish colour, you'll find it an addictive, funny and clever film.
