As is only possible in Japan, 42 high school students are roused to such competitive fury that they agree to go to an uninhabited island and execute each other, 'Survivor' style, until the island is, once again, uninhabited. The spectacular gore of this movie may be prohibitive to some more cerebral members, who should nevertheless stick it out for the apparently 'poignant' scenes which illustrate the fickleness of adolescent love and the passion of teenage bloodlust. The movie is documented throughout with slick graphic replays and constant kill updates so the audience is always aware of who is in the lead, and can, if the fancy takes them, bet on the outcome. If you enjoyed Series 7 then be aware that this will probably top it - the sheer number of cast members alone indicates that the amount of gore will be astronomical.

A squad of British commandos, reluctantly on training in the Scottish Highlands, stumble across the dismembered remains of a heavily armed elite military squad that appear to have been tracking their mission. Only the commander of the elite squad remains alive, but he's reluctant to let Sgt. Wells' (Pertwee, son of 'Dr Who' John Pertwee and bad-ass in Event Horizon) squad in on what's happening. After being attacked by the creatures that destroyed the aforementioned squad our heroes fall back to a local farmhouse in a last-ditch bid to make it through the night.

Dog Soldiers broke box office records for profitability when it was released in the UK, and more recently won a 2003 Saturn Award, the most prestigious award given by the US Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films (set up in the early 70s as a sort of Oscars for movies in genres that never win Oscars). Steering away from the Hollywood formula, it thrives on good editing, sharp direction and a use of natural props rather than CGI. Briefly put, Dog Soldiers is Aliens with werewolves. This is a must-see movie for all fans of action and horror
