A routine rescue mission during World War 2 for the submarine USS Tiger Shark goes awry after the ship's captain is swept overboard. Three people adrift in a life raft are rescued, but the Tiger Shark's crew all agree that they bring bad luck to the ship, particularly one, a woman! (Remember that this is a sub full of shell shocked, male WW2 sailors we're talking about!). This bad luck manifests itself when the Germa
Navy begins to track the sub and attempts to bombard it with depth charges.
As the ship's oxygen supply rapidly runs down mysterious things start to happen. Records start playing by themselves. Unusual sounds come from everywhere. Is there a saboteur aboard? Or are more supernatural forces at work?
Written by David Twohy, the talented director of The Arrival and Pitch Black, and Darren Aronofsky, writer/director of the mind-bending Pi and Requiem for a Dream, and directed by the former, Below is a thriller that plays on every sense in the body. Rather than fill the USS Tiger Shark with big name actors, the producers of Below hired talented minor film actors (including Jason Flemyng of Snatch and Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels fame) and television actors (Scott Foley ? Noel from 'Felicity'!), leaving most of their budget for stunts, sets and effects. Together these elements have produced one of the creepiest movies to hit our screens in a long time
