A working title for the first Scary Movie was: Scream If You Know What I Did Last Halloween. Nothing in the actual movie was as funny as that title, which, in the end, the producers didn't have the nerve to use. A less deceptive title would have been Painfully Unfunny Movie. When the Film Group showed the film for free, we still couldn't get anyone to come. Obviously, we never showed the sequel. So why are we showing this one? Because they've finally ditched the talentless people who worked on the first two films and hired someone who knows how to make this kind of parody work: David Zucker, who has admittedly done it better before (Flying High), but at least does it well enough now to be genuinely funny most of the time. And when a joke isn't funny, Zucker, unlike his predecessors, at least has the grace to MOVE ON, and not labour the damned thing until we all want to die. An alternate title for this film might be: 8-Ring Signs. There's not much to say about the plot except that they've cut up the plots of The Ring, Signs and (for some reason) 8 Mile into jigsaw pieces and stuck them together in a new, possibly random way, holding them in place with a ground-up paste made out of The Matrix and The Sixth Sense. It's crammed with jokes. You can forgive the ones that aren't funny for the ones that are.
