Love Actually is a Christmas movie with a difference. From the writer of Four Weddings & a Funeral, Notting Hill and Bridget Jones's Diary, it's a complicated tale of a dozen different stories loosely connecting in a frantic week before Christmas.
Hugh Grant, the British PM, falls in love with the Downing St tea lady (Martine McCutcheon), literally over the teapot. Emma Thompson is his sister. Alan Rickman is her cheating husband. Laura Linney is his assistant in love with her co-worker (Rodrigo Santoro). Bill Nighy is an aging rock star, with an uncanny resemblance to Keith Richards, involved in recording a cynical Christmas version of an old hit. Liam Neeson is a recently widowed man forming a friendship with his stepson. Colin Firth is a writer involved in a wordless romance with his Portuguese maid. Billy Bob Thornton plays the US president, with the morals of Clinton and the intelligence of Bush Jr, caught with the PM's tea lady...confused yet? Another dozen characters and a couple of porn stars thrown in will help clarify things. You'll just have to come along to find out what happens.
