Let me lay my cards on the table - Donnie Darko is one of my top five films of all time. Every time I see the movie, I pick up something new. I have sat through two commentaries, seen all the deleted scenes (many of which are in this version) and studied "The Philosophy of Time Travel". So when I get to review the new cut...well, I'd better start.

Is this the definitive version? No. The new version takes away a lot of the ambiguity of the original - if you thought it was just about a disturbed teenager, you could be disappointed. However, it is a great companion piece. Some of the new bits work well (there's more of the dad), and some don't (replacing "Killing Moon"with "Never Tear Us Apart" comes off thematically, but the original sets the mood better).

Whilst I recommend seeing the original first, this version works well on its own. If you are as big a fan of the film as I am, don't miss this. And remember... "28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, 12 seconds."
