Come and vote for all the old films you'd like to see on the Semester 2 programme!
Our definition of an old film is something that was released in Australia more than 5 years ago or that has been shown before by the group.
"The Station Agent" will be screened at 8pm, following the meeting.

About a year ago, a little (no pun intended) film came along, with a relatively small (no pun intended) amount of publicity, and had a short (no... oh, I give up!) run in Canberra. If you missed it, then I urge you to come along and experience The Station Agent.
Fin (played superbly by Peter Dinklage) inherits an abandoned train station when a work colleague dies. Fin has withdrawn himself from unnecessary interaction with others, mainly due to his treatment by others on account of him being a dwarf. However, when he moves into the station, he cannot help but form a connection with locals Joe (Cannavale), Emily (Michelle Williams), and Olivia (Patricia Clarkson, fantastic as always).
The Station Agent may sound like a maudlin weepie. However, I recall sitting through most of the movie with a feel-good smile on my face. You can't help but be drawn into these characters' lives, as they are so real! Director Tom McCarthy won the Audience award with this film at Sundance two years ago, and it was well deserved. If you despair at what Hollywood produces in the name of human drama these days, then you must see The Station Agent.
