Alex Hitchens (Smith) is 'Hitch', a very low profile love doctor helping luckless men get great women. He's cool, smooth and charming, and manages to pass enough of this on to his clients to make himself an urban legend. His latest client Albert is a hapless accountant who is hopelessly in love with his drop dead gorgeous and extremely rich client Allegra (Valetta). One night Hitch meets tabloid journalist Sara (Mendes) who 'coincidentally' specialises in stories on Allegra. Hitch's attempts to win her affection while helping Albert on his first 3 dates result in the usual mirth, mishaps and misunderstandings. If you think this sounds like a new spin on the old romantic comedy formula, then you're right. Thankfully, it's a good spin, and Smith is charismatic enough to carry it off without, well, a hitch. He is helped enormously by scene stealing Kevin James, and while Mendes is nice enough, this film definitely belongs to the boys. The plot is a little patchy in places, and while it won't win any Oscars, it has a very slick opening sequence, and it's sweet and funny enough to keep you entertained for the evening.
