Professional driver Frank Martin (Statham) is living in Miami, where he is temporarily filling in for a friend as the chauffeur for a government narcotics control policymaker and his family. The young boy in the family is targeted for kidnapping, and Frank immediately becomes involved in protecting the child and exposing the kidnappers. But when it all turns sideways (much like many of the cars in the film) and Frank is accused of being the mastermind behind the kidnapping attempt, hes got to use all his skills to save his own skin, and the skins of anyone else in trouble. And he must do so with gusto and in a sharp black suit.
The storyline isn't the strong point of the film. The acting is adequate and the writing does its job. The best thing about the film, as in the original, is the pure escapism and guilty pleasure it generates. No, it's not the best film on the programme, but it was never trying to be. It is, however, very enjoyable - just go in with the right attitude. There are lots of car (and other vehicle) chases, gunfire, martial arts and ridiculously outrageous stunts that do 'bend' the laws of physics... which all make for a fun, well, ride.
