In the sleepy Los Angeles suburb of Telegraph Hill, people go about their lives, unsuspecting of whats lurking in the shadows of their leafy surrounds. Soon, it becomes the job of one man, Mark Bittner, to appease the mysterious animals of unknown origin, before disaster strikes with ... THE WILD PARROTS OF TELEGRAPH HILL!!
OK, so I may be selling this film in the wrong way, but if you've seen the trailer for Shining that did the email rounds last year, then surely you'd realise the untapped potential of this... what's that, editor, get to the point? OK, sorry. This is a charming documentary about a struggling loner who befriends a bunch of birds. Now you may be like me, who, when seeing the promotional material for this, wondered how the hell anyone could make a feature length film out of it, let alone an entertaining one! But producer/director/cinematographer/editor Judy Irving makes this work, and beautifully. It's charming, funny, sometimes sad, but ultimately moving. If you haven't had an uplifting experience in the cinema recently, then you must come along to see these parrots!
