In Blowup we follow Thomas (Hemmings), a successful photographer, who works with top models and drives around in a convertible Rolls-Royce. In spite of his success he is really bored with his life situation. This boredom is manifested through a total arrogance towards everyone around him, especially the models that he is "stuck with" and the utterly annoying model wannabes who stalk him occasionally. The boredom ends abruptly one day when Thomas makes a surprise discovery while processing one of his photos. In the background of the photo he believes he can see a murder taking place. Intrigued by his new role as a detective he makes extreme blowups of the murderer and his victim. The blowups however are very blurry and it is far from obvious what they actually show... did he indeed witness a murder, or is he just seeing what he wants to see because his mind is rebelling against the boredom of his life?
In Blowup the director plays with the idea that truth is in the eye of the beholder. It is the first British film to feature full frontal female nudity. So even though this is a complicated art film, there is something for everyone!
