Sophie Scholl is the true story of the final six days of Germanys most famous anti-Nazi heroine. Julia Jentsch gives an outstanding performance in her portrayal of Sophie Scholl, a passionate and articulate young woman willing to risk everything for what she believed in.In 1943, a group of college students in Munich who call themselves 'The White Rose' distribute pamphlets in order to encourage others to resist the Nazi regime. Some of the key members are subsequently captured. The bulk of the film revolves around the interrogation of Sophie Scholl by Robert Mohr (Held) shortly after she is arrested. The interaction between them is truly interesting to watch. She shows amazing courage and gives an impassioned call for freedom and personal responsibility. You can see that even Mohr seems impressed by her intelligence and courage. Two previous films released in 1982 tackle the same subject. The first, 'The White Rose', tells the story of the whole group. The other was 'Fünf Letzte Tage' (The Last Five Days), which deals with Sophie's last five days. Sophie Scholl is an amalgamation of the two films, with extra detail as more information has become available since their release.Director Marc Rothemund expertly used interviews with witnesses and friends and transcripts of the interrogation to piece together this story.Sophie Scholl evokes emotion. You feel for Sophie and find yourself wondering what you would have done in her place. This is a well told story, all the more haunting because it is true.'
