The boy bands were the thing in music when I was a young lad growing up. Bands like New Kids on the Block, Westlife, East 17 and Take That dominated a good part of my high school music period. Did I want to be like them? Did I?! Who wouldnt have? A decade on, what has become of the members of these bands? While we know that a few have hit it big as solo artists, such as the legendary Robbie Williams, are the others driving cabs and working in customer service down at the local bank? BoyTown is a great comedy about what happens to the members of boy bands once the limelight fades away. Call it the Spinal Tap for boy bands. I loved it. Then again I'd probably love anything that Glenn Robbins and Mick Molloy starred in. Be prepared to dag yourself out as you laugh at the sometimes tacky jokes or the memories of when men could wear leather pants and call it trendy. Oh, hang on...Ok, even if you can't remember the boy band era you'll still love this movie as the one thing Australian movie makers seem to do brilliantly this millennium is the mockumentary. Think Kenny. BoyTown is the same. Great storyline, great acting, great gags and a great night.'

Glam rock is alive and well in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, the over the top tale of an internationally ignored' and troubled singer named Hedwig and her hopeless quest for fame and love. Born in East Berlin as a boy named Hansel, Hedwig underwent a sex-change operation to please an American G.I. who promised marriage and a happily-ever-after existence in the United States. But the operation was botched, leaving Hedwig with an 'angry inch', and upon arriving in America Hedwig is abandoned. So she starts a band telling her story in true gaudy style and her story gets more heated when a former acquaintance (Pitt) steals her songs and becomes a superstar. This sounds very out there, and don't by any means think it isn't, but it has a soul that is sweet and funny. This tender mix catapults this film far beyond its boundaries. It has terrific rock-and-roll, costumes and some very catchy songs. "The Origin of Love" is still one of my all time favourite tracks. Mitchell (as Hedwig) gives an outstanding performance and it all comes together in a powerful and dynamic film.'
