Jaguar Paw (Youngblood) and his fellow villagers lead a peaceful life in the forest until a savage, unprovoked attack turns their world upside down. After hiding his pregnant wife and young son from the invaders, Jaguar Paw joins in the fight, only to be taken prisoner with the rest of the survivors. Uncertain of what the future holds and taken from his home to a thriving metropolis that might as well be a foreign country, Jaguar Paw has just one goal--to return to his wife and child.Mel Gibson has done a good job of keeping himself in the news lately, for both the right reasons and the wrong reasons. I dont think people would care nearly as much if he didn't keep making great movies, and Apocalypto is no exception. Following The Passion of the Christ with anything was going to be a hard task, but Mel has embraced the challenge and come out with something completely different that nearly defies description. Apocalypto is basically an examination of the ancient Mayan civilisation, completely filmed with a cast of unknowns in an interpretation of the ancient Yucatec dialogue and wrapped in the sort of epic action movie that initially scored Mel respect as a director. Apocalypto is a breathtaking experience.'
