Eisenheim (Norton) is the chap whom the title refers to. He returns to turn-of-the century Vienna to find his childhood love, Sophie (Biel) - but shes about to be engaged to Crown Prince Leopold (Sewell). If you've seen any movies with Rufus Sewell in them (or any films with a Crown Prince Leopold, probably), you'll know that he's a boo-hiss bad guy, so when he sets Chief Inspector Uhl (Giamatti) onto Eisenheim to discover his secrets, you can only hope that Eisenheim will be able to turn the tables...Another "old-fashioned-magician-sploitation" flick, this story benefits enormously from the interplay between Norton and Giamatti - two of the best American actors working today, and both at the absolute top of their game. Biel also surprises by being way better at this acting gig than any "7th Heaven" alumni have the right to be. Surrounded by spooky atmospherics and all the olde-worlde location work you've come to expect from a film made in Prague, this is a lush, gorgeous tale of love and deception that's well worth catching.'
