Based on the epic graphic novel by Frank Miller (of Sin City fame), 300 is a ferocious retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae in which King Leonidas (Butler) and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. Facing insurmountable odds, their valour and sacrifice inspired all of Greece to unite against their Persian enemy, drawing a line in the sand for democracy.300 uses a combination of spectacular costumes and sets as well as heavy digital augmentation to create a breathtakingly original look, rivalling that of Sin City (though it is a very different look). 300 looks more like a work of art than a movie.
