There are many reviews in these booklets over the years that have emphasised how a film needs to be seen on the big screen. This may be the first time someone has tried to convince you that a film needs to be heard on the big screen.Let me explain...Noise revolves around Constable Graham McGahan (Cowell), who is assigned to the night shift in a police caravan, trying to get information from the public about a series of brutal murders in the local community. McGahan is very sensitive to sounds, given that he has suffered from tinnitus for about eighteen months. This movie grabs you in the very first scene, and doesnt really let go (although there are lighter moments where its grip is loosened a bit). Early on, though, you realise that it's not just the action/suspense that's got you hooked, but also the sound design - things like rhythmic train wheels, grass clippers and (particularly effective) McGahan's tinnitus all add to the effect of apprehension and naturalism.Seeing this film in a cinema is the way the creators intended, so you are absorbed into the drama sonically as well as visually. This is a solid, non-derivative crime drama/thriller that shouldn't be missed.'
