One thing you can pretty much bank on when going to see an Oceans film-chances are it's going to be a rollicking good time. At the risk of sounding cheesy (because apparently we didn't come close enough with "rollicking"), the gang's all here, with the original eleven members rallying together as one of their own is double-crossed and devastated to the point of heart-attack by ruthless casino owner Willie Bank (Pacino). Only Bank hasn't reckoned on how much this will annoy Danny Ocean (Clooney) and his band of lovable miscreants.
The plan? Revenge. Obviously. The caper? Ruining Willie's casino, and making off with a very tidy sum of cash and diamonds in the process. It's an even bigger gambit than the previous films, which, unfortunately for Danny, means it'll require more money. Which in turn means asking old pal/victim-of-crime Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia) for help. On the upside, Willie has made so many enemies that even Benedict is more than willing to play a part.
Soderbergh's tendency with these films has been to treat the stories as old-fashioned caper-movies. There's something very Rat Pack about it all: wit, twists, and more style than you can poke a stick at. It's fun seeing so many great actors just playing on the set. This particular instalment has promised to be more like the original Ocean's 11 than the slightly disappointing 12, and this, in my view, can only mean good things. If all else fails...hello? Eye candy!'
