Chazz Michael Michaels (Ferrell) and Jimmy MacElroy (Heder) are competitors in mens singles ice-skating at international level. At the 2002 World WinterSport Games they tie for gold and through their rivalry end up in an all-out brawl on the podium. After the brawl they are both banned for life from the competition.

Both Chazz and Jimmy are wasting away their lives, Chazz in a children's "on ice" show and Jimmy in a skate supply shop when Jimmy is approached by Hector (Nick Swardson), a deranged fan. Hector convinces Jimmy he can skate again as he was only banned from singles competitions and can compete in pairs skating. Jimmy fruitlessly tries to find a female pairs partner but during his search ends up in a fight with Chazz backstage after he has been fired from his show. Footage of their fight in which they perform a lot of pairs ice skating moves is shown on the news where it is seen by Jimmy's coach who convinces them to join together as an ice skating pair.

Blades of Glory is a mostly character based comedy with Ferrell and Heder extracting a lot laughs from it. As you'd expect it's not a "high-brow" film but it's great fun with top choreography and extreme characters.'

Weve all seen inspirational movies where someone attempts to make a change to a system, or to a group of people, and we're all meant to walk away feeling good. On the surface, Freedom Writer is one of these films. However I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this film. The new teacher at Wilson High, Erin Gruwell (Swank), is just twenty-three years old when she attempts to encourage her students to learn and be motivated about studying. Very idealistic in her pearls and suits, Erin tries to connect with her students - students who don't see the point in school and have seen much more in their lives than Erin could ever imagine. They don't count on Erin, however, who is willing to give her everything to the job and to help them learn.I watched this film expecting another movie about making a change - preachy, inspirational stuff. The reality was that I got a solid performance by Swank, and other supporting characters. Many of the students are inexperienced actors, and they do a fantastic job in their roles. This movie is based on a true story, which makes it even more intriguing. It's a must see - if you're unsure like I was before seeing it, surprise yourself. '
