The Dead Girl is a story of how unrelated people are affected by the untimely death of a young woman. First we meet Arden, who lives and cares for her abusive mother. Arden finds the dead girl on her familys land, and for some reason it gives her new courage to explore life outside her mother's grasp. Then we meet the Medical Examiner's intern, who believes that the dead girl is her long lost sister. Next we meet Ruth. Ruth and her husband spend their time together arguing, with the husband escaping for long drives without explanation. A little detective work by Ruth has her questioning her love for and loyalty to a man who perhaps doesn't deserve it. After the dead girl is identified, her mother comes to collect her body and discover the remnants of her daughter's life. After much heart-break, the only sunshine in this film is discovered. The film's final chapter delivers the last piece of the puzzle as we see Krista (the deadgirl) in the lead up to her death. Again, painful to watch, but filled with emotional drama. This film is an emotional journey, other than maybe a bit of a laugh when I heard that Brittany Murphy's character's surname was Kutcher! Each story could be its own film, yet the brief glimpse provided into each life is just about all we can take. This fascinating film will definitely give you something to talk about on the way home.'
