Princess Giselle (Adams) is a fairytale princess about to be married to Prince Edward (Marsden). But the evil queen (Sarandon) thrusts her from her fantasy world to present day New York City, where she meets Robert (Dempsey), a handsome (dare I say, dreamy... OK, only "Grey's Anatomy" fans are going to get that) lawyer, who lives with his young daughter Morgan (Rachel Covey). Giselle quickly discovers that the reality of life and love are quite different from what she imagined. But in order to make her dreams come true, she needs to avoid the poisoned apple with which the queen's henchman Nathanial (Timothy Spall) is trying to tempt her and avoid the wicked queen.Even though most of this movie is live-action - it opens as a typical Disney cartoon with a singing maiden and woodland creatures helping her with the housework - the characters as flesh-and-blood human beings remain cartoonish in personality. Giselle is unbelievably perky, Edward is manly (but not too bright), and the chipmunk (despite having lost his voice) shows brain power far in excess of what one might expect.I imagine this movie would have been a lot of fun to make, particularly for Sarandon as the over-the-top evil queen. But the movie is truly stolen by Adams who has playing 'lovable' down pat. The scenes in Central Park and the live-action animals helping with the housework are reason enough to watch this film but it has far more going for it than just that. Come along and see for yourself. I know you'll love it.
