Cloverfield is the hushed new project from the mind of J. J. Abrams. The hype has been big and mysterious and luckily Cloverfield delivers on what has been promised. It is a bit Godzilla Witch Project, but it's also pure entertainment.

Our viewpoint for Cloverfield is one video camera. We first witness its use during a day outing to Coney Island with Rob (Stahl-David) and Beth (Yustman). From now, everything we see is recorded with this camera. We discover that Rob's moving to Japan, and we zoom ahead to his going away party. At this party we discover the characters with whom we'll be sharing this thrill-ride. Rob's best friend, Hud (Miller), is recording good-bye messages from the partygoers. Then the building starts shaking. From here on, Cloverfield is an intense and terrifying ride.

The first person perspective works very well and makes you feel like you're one of the characters. You also care for the characters due to their initial crafting. The camera work is handheld, frenetic and bumpy, so let this act as a warning to motion sickness suffering audience members. You may need to pop your Kewels when you enter the theatre. But the shooting is very well done, and the movie moves at a breakneck pace with palm-sweating intensity.
