Thomas Mollison (Wakefield) is fifteen, in yet another new school, and has a new and really nice girlfriend Jackie (Ward), ); so life should be pretty sweet. On the flip side, he also has an autistic brother Charlie (Luke Ford). Because his mum is pregnant Thomas has to carry a lot of the load with Charlie, and; that seriously cramps his social life, and he's not happy about it,; and some of the kids at Thomas's school are pretty horrible.
Thomas could come across simply as a selfish little tick, but he isn't; his portrayal is described as sympathetic, making us empathise with his difficulties. Charlie is also portrayed very well, as lovable - but also as irritating as hell. The stand-out performance, however, is Toni Collette. This movie is funny, and very emotional, but without being confronting. I'm generally not a huge fan of this kind of movie, but this one sounds like a real winner, so I'll be going to see it to find out how good it is, and I recommend that you do too.
