No Guests
Depressed divorcee Carl Allen (Carrey) has a favourite word: 'no'. It's helped him avoid his ex-wife by spending all his time home alone and even makes his job as a loan approval officer all the easier (he just says no).
After a chance meeting with a successful former colleague and a realisation of what could have been, Carl reluctantly attends a motivational seminar that challenges him to say 'yes' to everything for a year. Before you know it, Carl is bungee jumping, playing the guitar, speaking Korean and even manages to pick up a woman named Faranoosh through a Persian dating service. What starts out as an eye-opener for Carl, however, soon becomes a disaster as one yes too many causes his life to spiral out of control.
As far-fetched as it is, the concept of Yes Man is actually based on a memoir by British comedian Danny Wallace, who really said 'yes' to everything for a six-month period. Regardless, the film is undeniably similar to Carrey's own Liar Liar; but simply seeing the rubber-faced comedian return to the high-concept comedies that made him famous is a treat in itself. Be it comedy or drama, Carrey is one actor that always gives it his all.
In short, is Yes Man worth seeing? No prizes for originality here, but in a word: yes.
