They don't make movies like this any more. That may be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your position, but this is certainly a stand-out in the "over-the-top angst, troubles and triumphs of artists done as a musical film" genre. It's probably also a must see for anyone who wants to ensure a well-rounded movie viewing life.

Fame showcases the college life of eight aspiring young individuals hoping to make it big in the art world. Their struggles with college are the main element of the film, not necessarily the end of their journey. We start out with some hilarious auditions and then follow the selected candidates. The cast of unknown actors do a superb job in showcasing the naivety, recklessness and free-thinking of their characters. The music is also fitting to the story and doesn't feel tacked on or jarring. A great film to wrap up the decade that was the wild 70s and one that will hopefully live forever.
