Cameron’s widely anticipated film arrives not only with fancy CGI or amazing colours and visuals, but also with a great imaginative story that is rich in symbolism, morals and reflection.

It took more than 12 years and USD$280 million dollars to create Avatar, and this is evident all throughout the film. Every single frame has been well thought-out to create a fantastic cinematic ambience that lasts from beginning to end.

The movie takes place on Pandora, a planet that resembles a fantastic hyperrealist painting. Pandora is full of unique creatures and plants, among them the Na’vi people who are more spiritually advanced than, but technologically inferior to, humans. They refuse to let the human invaders take over their land for the extraction of Unobtanium, a mineral that humans desire for its immense value back on Earth.

Jake Sully (Worthington) is a Marine whose job it is to convince the Na’vi people to relocate and let the humans exploit the natural resources of Pandora. With the aid of his avatar, a clone between Na’vi and human DNA, Jake sets out to persuade the Na’vi to give up their land – but in the process he has second thoughts about his purpose.

Avatar is a sensory delight, with a high dose of adrenalin that keeps the viewer captivated along with the colour, depth and long action scenes. It takes viewers through themes of duality, respect, trust, responsibility and love. It’s films like this that remind us why we love film in the first place.
