9 is a post-apocalyptic tale, set in a world where the war between man and machine appears to have left no living survivors. 9 (Wood), a living doll, awakens to find himself hunted by machines. He is soon discovered by 2 (Landau), who takes him to a small community of dolls named 1 through 9.

Each doll has a markedly different personality and a matching physical ability, which helps their survival in a many-parts-make-up-the-whole sort of way. The comparatively adventurous 9 discovers that his community could hold the key to all life on the planet – and a quest to destroy the highly intelligent computer behind the doll-hunting machines is born.

9 is a brilliantly constructed animated feature pitched at a more mature audience, based on an Oscar winning short of the same name (easy to find on YouTube if you want an idea of what the movie is like). The animation is wonderfully stylish and creates a unique steam punk-inspired world. The movie has a great voice cast, including Christopher Plummer, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly and Crispin Glover, all of whom complement the character animations flawlessly.

A unique experience, guaranteed to be a cult hit in years to come.
