Jim (Cowell) just can’t say those three or four words to his long-suffering girlfriend Alice (Strahovski). When she calls the whole relationship off, Jim retreats even more into his emotional black hole, encouraged by his best friend Blake (writer Helliar). However, a chance meeting with Charlie (Dinklage), an altogether more mature and sensitive guy, changes his thinking. Will it be in time though, or will Alice jet off back to London?
This Aussie rom-com takes a little while to get going but, once Dinklage arrives on the scene (coincidentally, the only non-Australian in a central role here), you’ll be glad you stuck with it, as he is by far the best thing on screen. He has a scene late in the movie, with (a surprisingly good) Megan Gale, that will just melt the heart of any true romantic. There’s also a sub-plot involving Jim’s sister (Bridie Carter) and “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” wannabe brother-in-law (Travis McMahon) that doesn’t really go anywhere but is touching nonetheless.
If it’s a light evening you’re after, where you can just turn your brain off and laugh and/or sigh, then you won’t go far wrong with this one.
