Kristin Scott Thomas naked.

I thought I’d throw that one in at the start, to get the attention and hopefully attendance of those who only skim the reviews and decide within the space of five words whether or not it’s a movie worth seeing. For the rest of you who like a deeper analysis…

This French film is a tale of simmering adultery as a consequence of the pursuit of passion over boredom. Suzanne (Scott Thomas) has the successful rich husband, two kids, comfortable house and lifestyle, and is about to embark on a new career running her own physiotherapy business. However, a simmering connection between her and a Spanish labourer (López) working on her house leads to an extreme reaction from her husband, threatening to unravel her lifestyle at a rapid rate.

The story may make you think you’ve seen it before, but the acting and directing skill make it thoroughly engaging and original from start to finish. Scott Thomas is always great, and her recent work in French cinema (Tell No One, I’ve Loved You So Long) is up there with her best work. This bold tale of decisions between passion and loyalty makes you think, hate, squirm and swoon – and surely that’s a good night out at the cinema by anyone’s standards!

(Oh, and did I mention Kristin Scott Thomas naked?)
