The plot is simple: an ugly duckling village girl goes to London, gets a nose job, transforms into a glamorous journalist, returns home and disturbs and disrupts the lives of a number of people, mostly men. Naturally, there are consequences.
Based on Posy Simmond’s comic strip first published in "The Guardian" and later published as a graphic novel, this story skilfully plays on the different outlooks and attitudes of the diverse societal groups in the village: Baby Boomers and Gen Y; men and women idolising the same icon; old media (writing) and new media (smart phones), city folk and village folk. Romance, comedy, jealousy and surprises, this must-read comic strip has transformed into a must-see film.
