The Millennium Trilogy was written by the unfortunately late journalist, Stieg Larsson. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo introduced us to the trilogy's protagonists: investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist and anti-social genius goth computer hacker Lisbeth Salander as they attempted to solve a 40 year old cold case. The Girl Who Played with Fire further explored Lisbeth's tragic past as it affected her present life, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest brings everything up to date with her future hanging by a thread!
We meet Lisbeth Salander (played by the excellent Noomi Rapace) who is being flown to hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the climax of The Girl Who Played With Fire. Lisbeth is moved to an intensive care ward under guard as she is expected to face trial for three murders on her release. Suffice to say, Lisbeth must face the consequences of her actions whilst her killer brother roams free wanting revenge: will she once again fall victim to the social system that had her institutionalised for the early part of her life, or, with the help of Mikael Blomkvist (played once again by Michael Nyqvist), will she successfully kick it instead, revealing the corruption responsible for her years of mistreatment?
Watch the original trilogy at the ANU before the release of the American adaptation, directed by David Fincher, which is currently in production!
