The fabled partnership between Sherlock Holmes (Downey Jr.) and Dr Watson (Law) is nearing an end with the upcoming wedding of the latter. Holmes is investigating a series of seemingly unrelated crimes that he believes were orchestrated by his archenemy Moriarty (Harris). But when Moriarty threatens retaliation against Dr Watson, Holmes takes up the challenge with his older brother Mycroft Holmes (Fry) and a gypsy named Sim (Noomi Rapace) to prevent it. The new team will do anything they can to thwart Moriarty's plan in one last case before Dr Watson's retirement. However, this case reveals itself to be the most difficult and dangerous yet as the fate of all of Europe seems to hang in the balance.
The sequel to the 2008 adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's famous characters, this action adventure is once again helmed by director Guy Ritchie (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch) and features his signature style, wit and visual flair. As is the case with all sequels, you can't help but compare it to the first but unlike so many, in this instance, the second is on par with the first in terms of action, drama and intrigue. Those looking for a more methodically authentic interpretation of the famous detective may want to stick to other adaptations but those who aren't sticklers for accuracy will enjoy this new adventure.
