Sam Worthington bounded onto screens as demigod Perseus, leading a great ensemble cast in 2010's Clash of the Titans, a sword and sandals blockbuster that was equal parts trash and fun (provided you could look past the awful rush job they did on a 3D conversion - Film Group thankfully saved a nearly packed house of members that horror by showing it in 2D). This sequel sees most of the original film's Olympians back, along with the big names that played them and more (Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Bill Nighy, Danny Huston, Rosamund Pike). Set a decade after his previous heroic adventure, Perseus leads the charge into the heavens to rescue Zeus from the clutches of his no-good son Ares and treacherous brother Hades as they plot a celestial coup.
I doubt anyone would call Clash of the Titans great cinema - even the 'classic' original is beloved mostly for its campiness and the animation by the legendary Ray Harryhausen - but it was still a rollicking popcorn movie. This sequel promises to be just as good, if not better now that the story actually features Titans, (unlike the original - well, not original... the most recent remake - which only featured the Olympians) as Ares and Hades make a deal to strengthen the Titans in exchange for weakening Zeus.
So, picky historian-types that love a B-grade action flick rejoice! A particularly silly story coupled with bombastic visuals are assured.
