Jupiter Jones (Kunis) thinks she’s just an ordinary earthling, with an ordinary job as a janitor and a slight streak of bad luck. She’s about to discover just how wrong she is, as a vast interplanetary conspiracy whisks her off on a high adventure involving strange creatures, alien royalty, the fates of several planets and a lot of running, falling from great heights and occasional explosions.
It’s been 15 years since The Matrix took us all by storm, and in that time the Wachowskis have had mixed success – the two Matrix sequels failed to really live up to the original and Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas played more as great cult fodder than as something the mainstream took to its heart. Jupiter Ascending will hopefully break this streak of bad luck, but, even if it doesn’t, a brief look at the trailer reveals a movie that screams ‘watch me on a big screen’. You may have noticed exactly how delightfully large the Coombs Theatre screen is. So your marching orders are to come and luxuriate in something that looks great, and may even have a decent plot.
