It is always interesting when a book gets turned into a movie because we get to see how someone else has interpreted it, compared to how we imagined and pictured the story and the characters as we read the book.
When the “Fifty Shades” book series was released, it was a worldwide phenomenon selling over 100 million copies around the world (and translated into 52 languages), bringing erotica into the light and prompting more to get on the shelves.
Fifty Shades is just like any other romance storyline: girl next door meets rich and powerful boy; boy has a dark past but exercises control in all things as his coping mechanism; they get together despite it all… voila! There is always a twist; and in this case we throw in some whips, chains and cuffs, as well as some rich toys like privately owned helicopters and planes.
Highly anticipated with tickets going on sale months in advance and with a strategically chosen release date of Valentine’s Day, I’m sure many ladies have dragged their men to the cinemas. Ladies: if you haven’t, or your man escaped with a partially believable excuse the last time around, here’s your chance – bring him along to the Film Group!
I blushed fifty shades of red watching Fifty Shades of Grey. Will you?
“Mr Grey will see you now…”
