This screening of Wild Tales is proudly presented by the Embassy of Spain
In this hugely entertaining black comedy, Argentine director Damián Szifrón tells six standalone stories, all connected with themes of revenge, regret, and anger at its most extreme. All the characters here are driven by their animal instincts, for better and, more often, for worse. There’s quite literally something for everyone here: psychotic plane pilots, social media terrorist heroes, men with serious road rage issues, and wedding receptions from hell.
The problem with anthology style films is that while some segments are well done, others can fall flat and bring down the quality of the whole. So it’s a pleasant surprise to find that all six of these tales are completely engaging. Everything moves at a quick pace – not a single moment is wasted – and for a two-hour film that’s quite an achievement.
Wild Tales has been a hit with critics and audiences alike and was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at this year’s Academy Awards – it’s very easy to see why. Exciting, suspenseful, effortlessly stylish and incredibly funny – this is one of the very best films released this year.
