Many years have now passed since our beloved king of the jungle, Tarzan (Skarsgård), left the African jungles for Britain to lead a gentrified life as John Clayton, third Viscount of Greystroke, unwillingly celebrated as the ‘Ape Man’.
His peace with beloved wife Jane Porter (Robbie) is disturbed when he is invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary for the British Parliament. However, things are not what they seem as this turns out to be a greedy plot of revenge masterminded by Belgian Captain Leon Rom (Waltz).
The Legend of Tarzan reinvents the iconic hero with a reverse origin story, as instead of learning how to become a civilised human, Tarzan must re-embrace nature and slowly release the beast he sealed off within himself long ago. The reveal of the animal brutality that a civilised Tarzan can be capable of, but dislikes so much, is an interesting and original take on a character that has already been portrayed in every form of media imaginable.
With a stellar cast including Alexander Skarsgård (TV’s “True Blood”), Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street), Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) and the highly acclaimed perpetual villain Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds, Spectre), this is a star-studded, epic, big screen spectacle of the highest scale. Suspenseful, entertaining, and with breathtaking visuals to boot, The Legend of Tarzan is one film you should get excited for.
