I absolutely fell in love with Heath Ledger when I first saw him in 10 Things I Hate About You way back in 1999, and followed him throughout his incredible career. Like pretty much everyone else, I was devastated at the news of his death in 2008, but was equally blown away by his final performance as The Joker in The Dark Knight.
I Am Heath Ledger is a feature-length documentary that celebrates the life of Ledger as a man, artist, friend, and father. It provides an intimate look at Heath Ledger through accounts of his friends and family, and, most tellingly, his own personal home movies. Ledger, it seems, was never without a camera in hand.
The film follows not only the turning points in his acting career, but a true sense of the admiration and love that he attracted. His immediate family, friends, and colleagues all pay tribute, not just to the star who burned out too soon, but also to the kind and loving man they all adored. I Am Heath Ledger is a wonderful way to remember the incredible actor for who he was, and how he influenced the lives of those around him, including ours.
