PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EMBASSY OF ISRAEL
Ovadia (Cohen) is a fierce bouncer in Tel Aviv’s edgy nightclub scene. Despite his brawny exterior, however, Ovadia is a family man at heart. In an attempt to conceive a child, he and his wife have endured years of heartache undergoing a variety of expensive and ultimately unsuccessful treatments. Weighed down by his unfulfilled longing to become a father, Ovadia accepts a proposition for fast cash from a seedy local gangster. He sees the work as a chance to pay for the best fertility treatment in the country.
Before long, he finds himself hurled into a life of underworld brutality as a debt collector for dirty deals gone bust. The action, violence and Ovadia’s inner battle with his morality hit a fever pitch as he finds he’s been pulled in a little too deep.
Our Father gives a poignant insight into the life of a man conflicted; battling for his chance to have, and provide for, his own family. Nominated for twelve Ophir Awards (Israeli Oscars) and taking home two, the latest effort from well-known Israeli filmmaker Meni Yaish is an affecting drama well worth watching.
